Green Deal initiatives and policies

The European Green Deal was presented in December 2019. The reasons pushing for the plan’s implementation are based upon the environmental issues such as climate change, a loss of biodiversity, ozone depletion, water pollution, urban stress, waste production and more.  It aims to make Europe climate neutral by 2050, boost the economy through green technology, create sustainable industry and transport, and cut pollution. By turning climate and environmental challenges into opportunities, it ambitions to make the transition just and inclusive for all.

At a time where urgent action is needed to fight against climate change and to contribute to Sustainable Development Goals, FEDIOL’s support for European Green Deal stems from the need to transition to a more sustainable and more circular economy. Sustainably and efficiently produced biomass from the agricultural and enhancing the use of side streams reducing our industrial impact can contribute significantly to Europe’s climate commitments.

Since its presentation, several initiatives and strategies have been submitted which are of particular interest to FEDIOL and further initiatives are still expected.

  • Fit for 55 (cilmate and energy policy)
  • Farm to Fork Strategy (Code of Conduct, deforestation-free supply chains, green claims)
  • Transition to a Circular Economy (Action plan)
  • A zero pollution Europe (industrial emissions)
